Eight injured in group clashes in Rajkot

Atleast eight persons including two policemen were injured when members from two separate communities clashed in Bhilvas area of the city, police said today.

The trouble began around 11 pm last night when one Jaliya went to purchase liquor from Babu and entered into a brawl after the latter turned him down.

Irked, Jaliya and his friends started abusing Babu and soon members from both the communities gathered and started pelting stones and attacked each other with sticks and iron pipes, police said.

A police vehicle was also attacked following which additional troops were summoned. When the situation grew tense and police lobbed ten rounds of teargas shell to quell violence.

Eight persons including two policemen were injured in the clashes, police said.

Security has been beefed up in the area and nearly 25 persons have been arrested in connection with the incident, police added.
