Eight held for cash van heist

With the arrest of eight persons, the Punjab Police on Wednesday claimed to have worked out the Rs. 1.34 crore robbery of a cash van in Mohali on Monday. The police have recovered Rs 1,28,70,000 of the robbed amount.

Inspector General of Police, Patiala, Paramjit Singh Gill said the accused had robbed an Axis Bank cash van at gun point on March 9 between villages Mauli and Saneta.

The IGP said Ranpreet Singh Rana was the kingpin of the gang and had planned the heist. The gang had snatched a Toyota Fortuner SUV on March 4 to commit this crime. During the crime, the accused had hit the windscreens of the van with axes, smeared chilly powder into the eyes of the staff and threatened them by brandishing the firearms. After looting the cash van, the culprits had abandoned the Fortuner and separated. They later reassembled in Chandigarh and divided the booty.

He said the police later learnt that some men with firearms were assembled at Rurki Khan village and were planning a big loot. The police subsequently closed in on the suspects and nabbed four of them. They were identified as Ranpreet Singh Rana, a bachelor of technology graduate, Joginder Singh, Talwinder Singh and Lakhwinder Singh.

Their four accomplishes were subsequently chased and nabbed from an Honda Amaze car from the Grain Market near Sector 38 West. They were identified as Gurvinder Singh Lally, Rahul Kumar, Parminder Singh and Buta Gir.
