The NDMA has put in place an “effective” disaster management plan for this year’s Amarnath yatra and mock drills at two base camps will be held later this month, an official spokesman said.

The review meeting of the disaster management plan was held yesterday and was attended by Jammu and Kashmir Governor N N Vohra and NDMA member Muzaffar Ahmad.

They discussed the modalities for putting in place the plan for the ensuing yatra, the spokesman said.

The NDMA shall be conducting table-top mock drill exercises simultaneously at the Baltal and Nunwan Base Camps on June 25.

“Two NDMA teams from Delhi shall overview the conduct of these mock drills with the objective of evolving an optimum level of preparedness and response during a worst case scenario, evacuation arrangements, medical preparedness and arrangements in regard to hygiene and sanitation at the various base and en—route Camps,” the spokesman said.
