Tripura Chief Minister Manik Sarkar on Sunday said since unemployment was one of the major causes of insurgency, his government was focussed on creating more job opportunities to ensure peace in the State.

Hoisting the national flag at the Assam Rifles ground here, Mr. Sarkar said his government was committed to economic development of the State which can in turn generate job opportunities for the youth.

Mr. Sarkar, who also holds the Home portfolio, said that unemployment was one of the major causes for insurgency in the State and appealed to the central government for providing more funds to generate employment in the State.

Mr. Sarkar said to provide more land into the hands of the tribals, the State government was mulling over the issue of settlement of tribals in the forest areas under the ‘forest dwellers act’.

Tripura came to the first row of the States in the country in implementation of the NREGA, he added.

Mr. Sarkar was given guard of honour by the security forces.
