The Election Commission today asked IT and finance ministry to probe CPI(M)’s complaint of money transfer through drafts to the Trinamool Congress for West Bengal Assembly elections.

“Both the agencies (Financial Intelligence Unit of the Ministry of Finance and Investigation Directorate of Income Tax department) have been asked to submit their reports to the EC by May 5”, West Bengal CEO Sunil Gupta said here today.

To a question if UBI and Allahabad bank alleged to have issued draft of lakhs of rupees have already submitted their replies to the Commission on the issue, the CEO said that he had not received any. “The bank authorities may submit their replies directly to the EC”, he said.

The CPI(M) in its complaint alleged that the drafts were issued to Trinamool Congress flouting the rules of the Bank as well as the Election Commission directives.
