EC gearing for Assembly polls in five States

With about 10 months left for elections to the Assembly in five States, the Election Commission has geared up its official machinery and drawn up a series of preparatory meetings in the next few weeks.

Chief Election Commissioner Navin Chawla and Election Commissioners S.Y. Quraishi and V.S. Sampath, who recently held a meeting with the State Chief Electoral Officers at Srinagar, among other things, discussed the preparation in Assam, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, West Bengal and the Union Territory of Puducherry.

Mr. Chawla said the full Commission would be visiting Chennai on July 6 to hold a meeting with the State Chief Secretary, Chief Electoral Officer, DGP and other officials.
