EC announces RS bypoll from Meghalaya

The Election Commission has announced by-election to a seat in the Rajya Sabha from Meghalaya to fill a vacancy which arose due to the resignation of Thomas Sangma, who, otherwise had term till April 12, 2014.

The poll will be held on April 18 and the notification issued on April 1. The last date for filing nomination is April 8 and on the next day the papers will be scrutinised. The last date for withdrawal of candidature, if any, is April 11.

The poll will be held between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. and counting of votes taken up at 5 p.m. on April 18.
