Ebola medical check-up in North-eastern states

Most of the north-eastern states have started medical check-up of people who recently visited some of the countries where there are reports of Ebola outbreak. Health officials in Tripura and Mizoram have not found any positive case of this deadly disease, sources said.

Microbiologists in Imphal told The Hindu that there are no confirmed cases of this disease. The border states of the NE region are susceptible to this and other deadly diseases as a good number of foreigners are migrating to this region and many of them visit the border villages for business and other purposes. If any of these visitors are tested positive for Ebola, then there is a possibility of them leaving the deadly trail.

“A major source of HIV positive in Manipur and Mizoram were sex workers and drug abusers from the neighbouring countries,” health officials said.

Meanwhile, microbiologists and other health officials in the NE region are closely following the experimentation of new drugs elsewhere in the world to find a cure.
