For rural societies, eating out comes through customs and traditions and not as an offbeat activity as in urban areas. In the highly forested district of Adilabad, eating out can even be an experience of being one with nature as food is cooked and eaten in the woods.
The onset of monsoon heralds a lot of activity which also includes celebrating the various phases of the wet season with which a host of customs are linked. The eating out starts with Paskarajula puja or puja of the green kings meant to celebrate the nascent greenery which the monsoon brings.
The agriarian community cooks and eats in the open lands outside their habitations which have acquired a fresh cover of green. In the Ashadham month, the community celebrates the Bheemanna puja by eating out in the woods followed by one more round of festivities in the jungles in the month of Kartika. Eating out in nature can be an activity which can be promoted by the Tourism Department,” suggested Kinnera Ramesh Kumar from Hyderabad who was out eating with his family members in the jungles of Khanapur recently. “Adilabad suits for such activity because of its good green cover and abundant forests,” he added.
Though there is a likelihood of such ventures in the pristine forests of Adilabad being a great hit, there is need for adequate safeguards to be taken in this regard. The safeguard should be in terms of plastic and other litter being discarded in the environmental spots.
Though the Forest Department is not known to object to such innocuous activities, it is better to seek permission to cook in the forests. This will ensure there are no hiccups while enjoying with the family.
