Earthquake rocks Assam, no report of casualties

A moderate intensity earthquake shook parts of Assam and Arunachal Pradesh on Sunday afternoon.

The earthquake had an intensity of 5 on the Richter scale, according to preliminary information released by the India Meteorological Department.

There were no reports of any casualties or damage to property from any place so far.

The earthquake, which took place at 2.54 pm, had its epicentre in Tezpur, Assam, in 26.7 degree North latitude and 92.5 degree East longitude.

It had its origin at a depth of 35 km from the surface.

The tremor was felt in Guwahati city, besides districts of central and upper Assam.
