DU’s market-friendly courses with entrance tests

May 27, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:46 am IST - NEW DELHI:

With the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) declaring Class XII results on Monday, many students have started evaluating and comparing their marks to last year’s Delhi University cut-offs to estimate whether they can make it to a good college.

However, those who have not scored well need not worry as DU provides some excellent courses where admissions are not done on the basis of percentage but entrance tests. The courses are also more market-friendly than others offered by the varsity.

For those interested in a career in the corporate sector or opting for their own start-up company, pursuing a Bachelor of Business Administration in Financial Investment Analysis [BBA (FIA)] is a very good option. The four-year course is offered by Shaheed Sukhdev College of Business Studies.

Talking about the course to The Hindu , principal Poonam Verma said: “The BBA (FIA) is the best course for those who want to pursue a career in the corporate sector. The course is among one of the most market-friendly courses offered by DU and students pursuing the course have been placed at good companies. A number of our students also plan to come up with their own start-ups.”

The BBA (FIA) students have been placed in companies like Ernst & Young India, The Smart Cube, Bain & Company, and Reckitt Benckiser. The highest pay package offered to a student in 2014 was Rs.10 lakh per annum.

Another market-friendly course on offer is a three-year programme called Bachelor of Business Studies. Students have the option of either a placement or pursuing Masters in management after the course. This course is offered by Shaheed Sukhdev College of Business Studies, Deen Dayal Upadhyaya College and Keshav Mahavidyalaya.

The varsity also offers an option only for girls. The Bachelor of Elementary Education (B.El.Ed) is a four-year integrated professional degree programme available at eight DU colleges.
