With the regulatory authority issuing the aerodrome licence last week, a spanking new airport at Andal, near Durgapur, in West Bengal will soon start commercial operations.

Efforts are on to invite a Singapore Minister for the inaugural in May. Singapore’s Changi Airports India Pte. (CAI), a subsidiary of Changi Airports International Pte., has 36 per cent equity in Bengal Airports Projects Ltd. (BAPL), the infrastructure company which has set up Kazi Nazrul Islam Airport, an official said.

Infrastructure Leasing and Financial Services and three other companies are equity partners.

The BAPL has progressed in its discussions with national air carriers to start flights, its managing director, Partha Ghosh, said.
