Four persons, including a former and a current employee of a transport company delivering Samsung products, were arrested for robbery of goods worth over Rs.26 crore from Sarita Vihar late on Wednesday night.
The accused, identified as Pramod (25), Sarvesh (27), Vinod Kumar Yadav (29) and his brother Pramod Yadav (25), allegedly intercepted a truck near Apollo Hospital and robbed electronic goods including mobile components, IC chips and assembly covers worth Rs.26.14 crore.
On the intervening night of Tuesday and Wednesday, at around 12-30 a.m., the police received a call that a container had been robbed near Sarita Vihar flyover, Kalindi Kunj Road. When the police reached the spot, the driver of the container, Ghanshyam, said he worked in A to Z Transport Company in Ghaziabad.
Ghanshyam started from Palam Airport with two containers. When he reached Kalindi Kunj, a white car intercepted the container. Two persons alighted from the car, pulled him down at knife-point and took away the container. Shortly, Sarvesh also reached there with the second container and made a call to the police control room, informing them about the robbery. A case was registered and investigation taken up.
“Antecedents of the current and recently-quit employees of A to Z Transport were verified. It came to the fore that some of their drivers had tried to commit a similar robbery in the past,” said DCP (South-East) Mandeep Randhawa.
“It was found that driver Sarvesh was frequently using his mobile phone at the time of taking delivery of goods. Sarvesh was in touch with one suspicious number,” he added.
“The mobile number was found to be in the name of one Pramod. It was revealed that Pramod earlier worked as driver in A to Z Transport and had left the job a year ago,” the officer said. On Thursday, a raid was conducted in his native village from where an Eicher canter loaded with looted articles was found. Pramod and his accomplices, Vinod Kumar Yadav and Parmod Yadav, were held while they were going to sell the looted goods. Their accomplice, Sarvesh, was also held.
