The crucial session of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of India (Marxist), where the draft political and ideological resolutions of the party are expected to be finalised, commenced here on Tuesday.
When asked to comment on the ideological resolution, Polit Bureau member Sitaram Yechury said that it will be a “public document” as the party wants to share its ideological position with the country.
The Central Committee will decide on how to “elicit the opinion” of various sections of people as it would like everyone to be involved in the discussions, Mr. Yechury added.
Both the resolutions, to be placed at the upcoming 20 Party Congress at Kozhikode in Kerala in April, are likely to be finalised during the four—day session of the party's Central Committee.
Mr. Yechury said that both the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Congress agreed on certain economic policies which are not in the interest of the country and there was no question of “diluting our political struggle against either of them.”
“We have stated clearly our stand against the policies of the Congress, particularly its economic policies, which are not in the interest of the country,” he said, adding that neither was the communal agenda of the BJP in the interests of the country's people.
Mr. Yechury's remarks on this score only underlines the CPI(M)'s intent to carve an independent role for itself and the Left in the emerging political situation in the country.
On being asked to comment on the relations between the Congress and Trinamool Congress, particularly after Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee redistributed certain portfolios of the Congress ministers in her Council of Ministers, Mr. Yechury said that it was up to the two parties to define their relationship.
“It is up to the Congress and the Trinamool Congress to define what their relationship is all about. Let us see what they decide about each other,” he added.
As for the draft political resolution prepared following the electoral reverses suffered by the CPI(M) in the 2009 Lok Sabha polls and the 2011 Assembly elections in West Bengal, it is expected to be taken up for discussion at the Central Committee session.
