An alert has been sounded in the low-lying downstream areas of the Sardar Sarovar Dam on the Narmada following huge inflow of water from Madhya Pradesh, officials said on Sunday.
The alert was sounded late Saturday in Tilakwada and Nandod taluks of the district and some taluks of Vadodara and Bharuch district after water began overflowing, they said.
District officials have been asked to remain alert as the dam was overflowing due to inflow from upstream, which was around 3 lakh cusecs since Saturday night.
On Sunday morning, the inflow had decreased and the dam was overflowing at 126.90m, officials said.
Meanwhile, the 1,450 MW power stations at the dam site started generating power at their full installed capacity for the first time this monsoon due to the inflow of water, Sardar Sarovar Narmada Nigam managing director S. Jagadeesan said on Sunday.
