Domestic help rescued from arrested MLA’s house

A 13-year-old boy has been rescued from the official residence of Congress MLA Rumi Nath who is under judicial custody for her alleged links with a auto theft and arms dealing gang.

The boy, who was working as a domestic help, was rescued by a joint team of Childline, Labour Department and the Guwahati Police after some media personnel informed the officials.

“When Rumi Nath was arrested last week, some media personnel saw a teenage boy at her Assembly MLA Hostel quarter and informed us. Accordingly, we visited her house on Saturday and rescued the boy,” Childline Coordinator (Guwahati) Nirmal Deka said on Sunday.

The boy said he is from Barkhola, Ms. Rumi’s constituency, and was brought to her house for getting admission into school, but till now he is staying idle and also do some household work, Mr. Deka said. “We have kept the boy at the Government Children Home and already informed the Child Welfare Committee of Kamrup Metro, who will decide about the case in its next sitting on April 21,” he said.-PTI
