The two-day mass casual leave by government doctors in Haryana to press for their pay-related demands entered the second day on Wednesday with the medicos claiming that health services remained affected across the State.
The doctors want Non-Practising Allowance (NPA) to be made part of basic pay, said Rajesh Kumar Khyalia, President of the Haryana Civil Medical Services Association, which is spearheading the stir.
He claimed that work was affected in Primary Health Centres, Community Health Centres and General Hospitals across the state.
“We are attending to emergency services and have asked doctors in the districts to carry out post-mortem examinations keeping in view the patient welfare in mind as our fight is with the government,” he said.
“If our demands are not accepted, we will proceed on an indefinite strike from November 11. The ball is in their court now,” Dr. Khyalia said.
However, State Health Minister Rao Narinder Singh said health services were normal at most places.
He said there was no justification of the strike as the government was considering their demand and would view any disruption in health services very seriously.
“Strict action will be taken against those doctors who pressurise other doctors for not reporting on duty,” he added.
