Doctor who treated Kishenji held

December 13, 2013 12:34 am | Updated 12:34 am IST - KOLKATA:

A retired doctor of a public sector undertaking was arrested by the Asansol Durgapur Police Commissionerate in the State’s Bardhaman district on charges of sedition on Thursday.

Samir Biswas (65) who was arrested in the early hours of the day from the residence of a relative in Asansol had reportedly treated Koteshwara Rao alias Kishenji, member of the Polit Bureau of the Communist Party of India (Maoist) who was killed in an encounter with security forces in November 2010.

Dr. Biswas was absconding for the last three years after a case of sedition was lodged against him in April 2010.

“He has been arrested in connection with an old case. We are investigating links between Maoists and the doctor,” a senior officer of the Commissionerate said.

The police had raided his house in Asansol in April 2010 and recovered several ‘incriminating’ documents. Since then the doctor was on the run.
