Uttarakhand Speaker Govind Singh Kunjwal on Thursday advised the State government not to rush restoration works in Kedarnath and at the nearby areasin Rudraprayag district after Almora Sub Divisional Magistrate Ajay Arora was swept away in the Mandakini on Wednesday as he slipped while crossing a makeshift bridge.

Such incidents, Mr. Kunjwal said, could be avoided if the government was careful in executing projects. Many senior Provincial Civil Service Officers have wondered why Mr. Arora was forced to work even after he complained of high blood pressure and other ailments.

He said that the safety of the personnel deployed in Kedarghati, and that of the locals, was much more important.
