A few days after Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) announced that it would not fight the Parliament elections in the company of Congress and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), the Puducherry unit of the DMK indicated on Wednesday that there would be no tie- up with All-India N.R. Congress in the Parliamentary elections.
M.A.S. Subramanian, organiser, DMK’s Puducherry unit, told The Hindu here that the Rangasamy government had been “indifferent to all aspects of governance” since it came to power in 2011. The Chief Minister had failed to fulfil promises made to the electorate. People were angry with the government. The DMK had been undertaking intensive campaign against the AINRC to expose its failure. Hence, there would not be any understanding with the AINRC in the Parliamentary elections.
Mr. Subramanian added that sentiments of people on the government had been informed to the DMK high command. As far as Puducherry was concerned, Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi, Indian Union Muslim League and Christian Front were in the DMK alliance.
General body meet of the DMK’s Puducherry unit had been convened on December 30 to discuss about the Parliamentary polls.
To a question, Mr. Subramanian said that there were chances for a few more parties to join the DMK-alliance. The party leadership would take a final call on alliance as far as Puducherry was concerned. On accusations made by Pradesh Congress Committee president A.V. Subramanian that the DMK had snapped its ties with the Congress after enjoying about 10 years of power at the Centre and five years in Tamil Nadu with the support of the Congress, Mr. Subramanian said the Congress must acknowledge that it was leading the government at the Centre for the last 10 years with support of the DMK.
