The long unresolved issue of division of assets between Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand remained the main focus during the 20th meeting of the Central Zonal Council that was chaired by Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh here on Monday.

Speaking at the meet, Mr. Singh said the zonal councils were an important forum to resolve inter-State issues. Such meetings help States to come closure and cooperate in areas of common interests that would lead to faster development of the states which in turn would help in boosting India's growth, he said.

The meeting was attended by four Chief Ministers -- Akhilesh Yadav (Uttar Pradesh), Harish Rawat (Uttarakhand), Shivraj Singh Chouhan (Madhya Pradesh) and Raman Singh (Chhattisgarh). The meet was held after two decades. Mr. Singh has revived these councils. The eastern zone meeting was held in Patna last week.

On the occasion the Chief Ministers presented their reports on their developmental works and achievements besides putting forward their demands.
