: Justice P.K. Mohanty Commission of Enquiry probing into the sensational Pipili gang-rape and murder case of 2011 on Saturday issued a notice to dismissed police inspector Amulya Kumar Champatiray to depose before the Commission on February 7 and face cross examination.
Champatiray was officer in-charge of Pipili police station when the incident took place in November 2011 and had initially refused to register a case when the rape victim’s father Babuli Behera informed him about the incident. Champatiray was suspended and subsequently dismissed from service in 2012.
Allowing a petition by Babuli Behera’s lawyer Nishikant Mishra, the Commission felt it necessary to cross examine Champatiray.
Three witnesses had already been cross examined by the Commission in July last year.
Witnesses — Pradyumna Subudhi and Sushant Kumar Mallick, have told the Commission that they were present inside the police station on that day when Babuli Behera came to lodge the complaint.
Meanwhile, Puri district DSP Manoranjan Samal on the day filed an affidavit before the Commission on behalf of the Puri SP stating that no departmental action was taken against Champatiray for dereliction of duty.
