Two new Congress Ministers were inducted into the Prithviraj Chavan-led Congress-NCP ministry on Monday. On Sunday, the Congress found itself in an embarrassing situation when it had to cancel the planned swearing-in due to infighting among party leaders.

Abdul Sattar, senior party MLA from the Marathwada region and Amit Deshmukh, son of former Maharashtra Chief Minister late Vilasrao Deshmukh, were sworn in as Cabinet Minister and MoS respectively by Governor K. Sankaranarayanan. The swearing-in comes on the first day of the Assembly’s monsoon session.

According to sources, the Chief Minister was unwilling to include Mr. Sattar in the Cabinet since he was considered close to former Chief Minister Ashok Chavan, who had to quit due to the Adarsh scam.

Mr. Deshmukh’s inclusion is seen as the political rehabilitation of the former Cfief Minister’s son, who was sidelined in the State politics after his father’s untimely death.
