Delhi Opposition wants to allow Ramlila, Durga Puja festivities till midnight

September 07, 2009 05:51 pm | Updated 05:55 pm IST - New Delhi

Leader of the Opposition in Delhi Assembly Vijay Kumar Malhotra on Monday demanded that timings of Ramlila and Durga Puja celebrations be extended from 10 pm to 12 midnight.

Mr. Malhotra pointed out that while Supreme Court has fixed the timings for festival up to 10 pm, it is up to the state governments to extend the timings for 15 days in a year.

“Ramlila and Durga Puja celebrations are held for 10 days only and if the timings are not extended it will mar the celebrations and dampen the spirit,” the senior BJP leader said in a statement here.

Mr. Malhotra urged Mr. Khanna to take urgent decision in the matter and issue necessary instructions to the law enforcement authorities in the national capital.
