Death-toll in road accident near Raipur climbs to 12

Death toll in the road accident near Rakhee village here increased to 12 with three more persons succumbing to their injuries while undergoing treatment at a hospital here, police said.

The incident had occurred yesterday when a pick-up van carrying a marriage party collided head-on with a truck at Abhanpur, 25 km from here, leading to the death of nine persons at the spot.

Twenty-three others had suffered injuries and had been admitted to the Ambedkar Hospital here, Senior Superintendent of Police Deepanshu Kabra said adding that three persons - Bheesham, Lokeshwar, and Ghumuram died while undergoing treatment late last night.

The condition of one of the injured is critical, he said.

Meanwhile, Chhattisgarh government has announced a compensation of Rs 50,000 to the kin of the deceased and Rs 15,000 to those injured, official sources said.

According to the sources, State Agriculture and Labour Minister Chandrasekhar Sahu visited the victims at the hospital where he declared the compensation.

The minister has asked the Raipur collector to provide the kin of the deceased an immediate relief of Rs 25,000, they said.
