Death toll rise to three in Samba explosion

With the death of a seriously injured man in the Government Medical Hospital here, the toll in the explosion in Samba district of Jammu and Kashmir has gone upto three.

33-year-old Avinash Singh succumbed to his injuries late last night, police said today.

Mr. Avinash was serving as a jawan in 52 battalion of BSF in Shillong and had come on leave for a few days, they said.

Two persons- Kulbir Singh and a three-year-old girl Lovely were killed and eight others of a family were injured, two of them critically, in a powerful explosion of a shell in Samba district yesterday.

Kulbir, elder son of Avinash, was serving in Military Engineering Service.

The three bodies were cremated at village Kullah-Kotli in Samba district today as pall of gloom has descended over the border hamlet.

BSF and forensic experts have been roped in to ascertain the nature of the explosive. Samples have also been collected from the site.

“We are investigating into the matter,” a police officer said, adding that a case has been registered in this regard.
