Dalit girl allegedly raped by forest guard in Bihar

Intiaz Ali, a forest guard at the Valmiki Tiger Reserve (VTR) in West Champaran district of Bihar, was arrested for allegedly raping a seven-year-old Dalit girl on Thursday night.

The victim’s mother worked as a cook at Ali’s place. When she went out to buy some provisions, Ali raped the girl who was alone at his house, Shailesh Kumar Sinha, subdivisional police officer at Bagaha Sadar, told The Hindu.

The victim belongs to a poor family. Her father works in a local music band.

A case under IPC Section 376 (punishment for rape) and the Scheduled Caste/Scheduled Tribe (Prevention of Atrocities) Act was registered against Ali, Mr. Sinha said.
