Jaswan Singh, a Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) jawan, who shot himself after gunning down a national-level woman kabaddi player, died of his injuries at Patna Medical College Hospital (PMCH) here, PMCH Superintendent O. P. Choudhary said.

The critically wounded CRPF jawan succumbed to his injuries on Thursday, Mr. Choudhary said.

Jaswan had fired at a woman kabaddi player, Manisha, from his AK-47 on February 9, after she refused to share her mobile number with him near Bahadurpur railway crossing in the State capital.

The CRPF man later fired at himself in which he was critically injured.

The family of Manisha, who hails from a village in Himachal Pradesh’s Shimla district, had yesterday taken her body to the State for cremation.

Jaswan was posted at the CRPF camp at the Moin-ul-Haq Stadium here, where she had gone to attend practice sessions for the 34th National Games in Jharkhand beginning Feb 12.

Jaswan, a resident of Rajasthan, was a jawan of the 131st CRPF Battalion.

Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, shocked at the killing of Manisha, who was also a railway employee, had said the State government would ask the CRPF headquarters to take immediate steps to withdraw its camps from the stadium and colleges in Bihar.
