The CPI(M) ward committees in Himachal Pradesh staged a joint protest in Shimla on Thursday against the non-availability of ration in government depots.
The Nagrik Sabha, which takes up people’s issues, in its protest on Thursday alleged that the people of the town were not getting even half of the ration — of around 3,500 quintal rice and 7,000 quintal of wheat — meant for about 32,000 ration card holders. The organisation has demanded a strict implementation of the earlier public distribution system in the State. A majority of government ration depots in the town have been handed over to private agencies. The Nagrik Sabha demonstrated outside the Food and Civil Supplies Department and opposed the siphoning off of ration from PDS depots.
