CPI(M) frowns on Delhi incident, but wants end to Trinamool attacks

April 11, 2013 02:21 am | Updated November 17, 2021 05:12 am IST - NEW DELHI:

The Communist Party of India (Marxist) will look into the heckling of West Bengal Finance Minister Amit Mitra by SFI activists outside the Planning Commission office here on Tuesday.

Activists of the Students Federation of India (students wing of the CPI-M), protesting against the alleged custodial death of their leader Sudipta Gupta in Kolkata last week, targeted Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and Mr. Mitra outside the Planning Commission office where they were scheduled to attend a meeting.

Disapproving of and condemning the incident, the CPI (M) said it would look into the incident.

In a statement here on Wednesday, the CPI (M) Polit Bureau said that on the pretext of this incident, widespread violence had been unleashed against the party and the Left in West Bengal.

Demanding that the Trinamool leadership put a stop to these attacks, the Polit Bureau said the West Bengal government should take immediate steps to ensure that peace was maintained. A judicial probe into Sudipta Gupta’s death should be ordered without delay, it said.
