The car of CPI(M) chief whip in West Bengal assembly Abdur Rezzak Mollah was attacked and a party member beaten up by Trinamool Congress(TC) workers at Bhangar in South 24-Parganas district on Saturday.

Police said two TC workers attacked the car and beat up local CPI(M) leader Sattar Mollah, who was in it with Mr. Rezzak Mollah.

The two TC workers forced the car to stop and pulled out Sattar Mollah and beat him up. They also tore his clothes, police and Mr. Rezzak Mollah said.

However, Mr. Rezzak Mollah was not touched, nor the guard, also a party member, accompanying him.

Later, he demanded the immediate arrest of the attackers, whom he identified as Rana Bose and Rahul Bose.

The two, he said, were cousins of local TC leader Prabir Roychudhury.

The reason behind the attack on the CPI(M) leader’s car was yet to be known.

Police said a search was launched to catch the attackers and a large police contingent have reached the place.
