The Himachal Pradesh University authorities on Friday expelled nine students, all belonging to the Students Federation of India, on the charges of indiscipline and vitiating the campus academic atmosphere.
The students of the university and the affiliated colleges here are protesting against the sudden fee hike and the banning of student elections.
The police after imposing Section 144 of CrPC rounded up more than hundred students and charged at them with lathis at more than five places on Friday.
The students were roughed up in the university buses and even the campus library, said the SFI.
The State Committee of Communist Party of India (Marxist) that staged a massive protest rally outside the Collector’s office condemned the role of Congress government for financially starving the university and forcing it to raise its own resources.
BJP leaders said the fee hike would negatively impact students.
