The CPI is demanding peace talks with all proscribed underground organisations in Manipur for the restoration of peace in this border state. This was stated during a press conference on Saturday in Imphal by Atul Kumar Anjan, the national council secretary of the CPI. He is visiting Manipur. Other national leaders of the party have also been visiting the state to talk with the state leaders on the selection of the CPI candidates for the two Parliamentary seats in Manipur.

Anjan said that all sections of people now want peace in the state.

After feeling the pulse of the people the rebels of all hues should also come to hold political dialogues with the government. The government should be sincere in his quest for peace and keep all doors open and the talks must be held without strings.

Manipur is a tiny State with less than 30 lakh population. However there are over 50 armed rebel groups. Most of them are running a parallel government in the State. After the failure to find out consensus candidates for the non-Congress opposition parties, CPI is one of the parties fielding its own candidates for both the Parliamentary seats.
