Court issues warrant against Manas Bhuniya

July 05, 2016 12:00 am | Updated 07:21 am IST - Midnapore (WB):

A local court on Monday issued arrest warrant against senior Congress leader and MLA Manas Bhuniya and three others in connection with the murder of a Trinamool Congress supporter near Sabang on April 8.

The Chief Judicial Magistrate, Midnapore, issued the arrest warrant against Bhuniya, his brother and West Midnapore Congress president Bikash Bhuniya and two local leaders Amal Panda and Abu Kalam on Saturday night but the police received the warrant on Monday, the first working day of the week.

Bhuniya was among 17 others named in an FIR filed by the wife of the TMC supporter, during the multiple-phase State Assembly elections.

The incident took place a night before the second phase of the Assembly elections when the local TMC leader was returning from a campaign rally and was attacked with bamboo sticks and iron rods by a group. He died on the spot.

Bhuniya had moved an anticipatory bail petition with the court soon after which was rejected on June 14 by the district and sessions judge. - PTI
