Constable shoots himself for award

March 22, 2011 02:39 am | Updated 02:39 am IST - Jaipur:

A constable, deputed as the personal security officer of a former MLA here, shot himself in an attempt to claim a gallantry award.

“Mahesh Rajguru alleged that around six unidentified persons opened fire at him at the rented house of the former MLA, Surendra Singh, and sped away in a car,” Adarsh Nagar Assistant Commissioner of Police Arun Macya told PTI here on Monday.

“Senior officials rushed to the spot and found his statements and crime scene suspicious. Today [on Monday], he confessed [that] no such incident took place and [that] he shot himself just to claim a gallantry award,” he said.

Rajguru was admitted to a hospital in the city.
