The rift within the opposition Congress in Bihar came to the fore on Monday with BPCC president Anil Sharma announcing that the party would contest all the 243 seats in the coming assembly elections on its own without consulting his bete noire and in-charge of Bihar affairs Jagdish Tytler.
There was no need to consult any party leader including Tytler, as AICC president Sonia Gandhi was the final authority to take a decision about the candidates, Mr. Sharma told newsmen here.
The committee of the state PCC would prepare a list of seven possible candidates from a constituency representing students wing, women, other backward castes and extremely backward castes.
On the seven-member list, two seats would be earmarked for general category.
The final decision about the candidature would be taken by the AICC president Sonia Gandhi, Mr. Sharma said.
