As talks between the Congress and the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) for the coming local body polls in Maharashtra began on Saturday, the two are learnt to have agreed to a pre-poll alliance for Mumbai and Thane corporation elections.
“We have decided in principle to come together in Mumbai and Thane. We will decide on the details in a meeting next Wednesday with the Chief Minister, the Deputy Chief Minister, key Congress and NCP leaders and presidents,” Maharashtra NCP president Madhukar Pichad told The Hindu on the phone after a round of discussion with Maharashtra Pradesh Congress Committee chief Manikrao Thakre.
Mr. Thakre said, “Today was the first meeting between the two parties. Our talks have begun. There are attempts on both sides to join forces. We will continue our talks.”
