Congress MP’s son held for Amethi clash

Nine months after the Bhupati Bhavan dispute spilled over to the streets of Amethi resulting in the death of a police constable, Anant Vikram Singh, the estranged son of Congress MP, Sanjay Singh was arrested on Saturday.

The constable died following a clash between the police and villagers in Ramnagar on September 14, 2014. Mr. Singh along with six others was named in the FIR and charged with conspiracy in the Bhupati Bhavan case.

After his arrest, Mr. Anant Singh was produced before the Chief Judicial Magistrate in Sultanpur who sent him to 14 days judicial custody.

Mr. Anant Singh joined the Bharatiya Janata Party in December 2014. BJP workers in Amethi have condemned the arrest. Stating that he was not involved in the constable’s killing, the local BJP workers demanded a judicial inquiry into the incident.
