Congress MLA ‘opens fire’

One of the senior most Congress leaders of Uttarakhand, Vivekanand Khanduri, and a party worker were injured when party MLA Kunwar Pranav Singh Champion allegedly opened fire at a dinner party at the residence of Agriculture Minister Harak Singh Rawat here on Monday evening. The provocation was not immediately known. Mr. Khanduri, who suffered injuries in the leg, has been rushed to hospital.

Mr. Rawat had thrown the party for his colleagues on the eve of the Budget session beginning on Tuesday. Several senior leaders, including Finance Minister Indira Hirdeyesh, Deputy Speaker Anusuya Prasad Maikhuri, MLAs Lallit Farswan and Manoj Tiwari and the former Dehra Dun Mayor, Manorma Sharma, were present when the incident took place.

Police officials were unwilling to comment.
