Congress leader Gouda succumbs to injuries

He was critically injured in an attack on November 22

Makara Gouda (62), senior Congress leader from Shergarh block of Ganjam district, who faced lethal attack on November 22, died in MKCG Medical College and Hospital in the city on Monday.

The culprits behind the attack were not arrested till Monday afternoon. But the Shergarh police with the help forensic experts have released sketches of three suspected assailants. Police said identity of the persons who would provide information regarding these suspected culprits would be kept secret and they would be rewarded. The Ganjam district police has formed a special squad to track down the three accused.

Mr. Gouda was active in panchayat politics in Shergarh area. He was a former sarpanch and ex-vice-chairman of the Shergarh block. He was also the president of the Congress unit of Shergarh block.

He was attacked while he was returning to his village Sunantara from Shergarh on his motorbike on November 22 afternoon. According to the police, a group of miscreants armed with sharp weapons stopped him near Solasola village. They attacked him with sharp weapons. The seriously injured Gouda was first taken to the Shergarh Community Health Centre (CHC). From there he was shifted to MKCG Medical College and Hospital as his condition was extremely serious.
