The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Friday condemned the Congress for staging a protest at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi.

Representatives of the Congress from Uttarakhand led by Uttarakhand Pradesh Congress Committee president Kishore Upadhyaya, on Thursday, staged a protest at Jantar Mantar demanding reservation for people of Uttarakhand in the Central Government services and approval of proposals including the one on green bonus.

In a memorandum to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Congress had requested extension of the industrial package for 10 years and a “special package for tourism.”

An additional demand of Rs. 10,000 crore was mentioned in the memorandum for execution of the  Swachh Bharat Abhiyan in the Hill State.

Addressing the media on Friday senior BJP leader Ajay Bhatt, who is the Leader of the Opposition in the State Assembly said, “Why didn’t the Congress stage such protests [against the Central Government] when it was their government at the Centre for 10 years?”

Calling the protest a “drama,” Mr. Bhatt said,” [Under the Congress Government] the condition of the State has gone from bad to worse.”

State BJP president Tirath Singh Rawat said, “Law and order situation is deteriorating in the State, corruption is increasing… The Congress staged a protest at Jantar Mantar to put the blame of their failures on the Centre.”
