Congress poll manifesto assures all round development in Tripura
The Congress and its allies released their manifesto on Sunday for the February 14 Assembly elections in Tripura, laying out ambitious programmes for all sections.
At Congress Bhavan here, AICC general secretary in charge of Tripura Luizinho Faleiro released the manifesto, in the presence of Pradesh Congress Committee president Sudip Roy Burman, senior leaders of the party and those of the Indigenous Nationalist Party of Tripura and the Nationalist Council of Tripura Mr. Faleiro said the coalition envisaged a forward-looking State, which was lagging because of 20 years of “misrule” of the Left Front government.
“The CPI (M) has abandoned the poor and the oppressed class. A Congress-led government will bring all happiness to them.” The alliance vowed to deliver a transparent and competent government and restore peace and harmony in the State.
The manifesto promised to implement the recommendations of the Sixth Pay Commission for government employees and improve the pay and work conditions of the police and paramilitary troops. The highlights are 7 kg of free rice per person and 35 kg of rice for each poor family at Rs.1 a kg, enhancement of wages under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act to Rs. 200 a day, a one-time free grant of Rs. 20,000 to poor farmers and laptops to students passing the higher secondary examination with distinction. The party promised to institute legal proceedings against officials involved in corruption.
