Congress president Sonia Gandhi on Saturday said the BJP failed to acknowledge the utility of flagship schemes launched in Rajasthan owing to its “negative mindset.” The Ashok Gehlot government was silently serving the State people without “beating the drums” about its achievements.

Addressing a rally at Ummaid Singh Stadium here, Ms. Gandhi took exception to some BJP leaders describing free medicines supplied at government hospitals as poison. “The speed of development in the State is there for everyone to see, except the BJP. They see only darkness.”

Those unwilling to digest the immense benefits extended to the poor and downtrodden had a “poisoned heart,” she said. Ms. Gandhi heaped praise on the State government for launching several initiatives for the benefit of different sections of society in fields such as social security, medical and health, education, housing and pensions. “Rajasthan, which did not get any investments at the time of Independence, is today an attractive destination for investors.”

While self-help groups had made women self-sufficient, the increase in minimum support prices for different crops had benefited farmers. Dalits, tribal people and minorities were being taken care of.
