Cong. workers show black flag to Das Burma

April 15, 2016 12:00 am | Updated 07:34 am IST - BHUBANESWAR:

The Food Supplies and Consumer Welfare Minister Sanjay Das Burma, embroiled in controversy for his alleged links with a tainted chit fund company, was shown black flags by members of the youth wing of the State Congress at Puri on Thursday.

Mr. Das Burma was here for the inauguration of an Aahar Centre near Puri Bus Terminal in the morning. The Youth Congress activists stormed the place with black flags in one hand and the party flag in another.

They were shouting slogans against him. Puri town police immediately swung into action and whisked them away from the spot. Four Congress members had earlier been detained.

“If my involvement with any chit-fund company is proved, I would quit politics. Everybody should wait for the CBI to complete the investigation,” said Mr. Das Burma at Puri.

Odisha Pradesh Congress Committee president Prasad Harichandan said: “The minister knows it better than anybody else as to who is conspiring against him. The CBI investigation on chit-fund fraud has lost its direction. Even top BJP leaders have expressed concern that the probe is getting diluted. The CBI is shielding top BJD leadership who are allegedly involved in this mega scam. The Naveen Patnaik government seems to at the mercy of Narendra Modi government, which has been misusing CBI.” In response to Mr. Das Burma’s reaction, BJP leader Sameer Mohanty said: “We have produced in public domain several papers showing shady deals involving the minister. He should first give a proper explanation to those proofs.”
