At least 50 people have died so far in Uttar Pradesh due to severe cold and fog-related accidents. With temperatures continuing to plummet and fog disrupting rail, air and road traffic, several district administrations have ordered closure of schools for the entire week.

While half-a-dozen people died in and around Lucknow, almost a dozen died in eastern parts of the State. Deaths have also been reported from Rampur, Moradabad, Aligarh, Arga, Kanpur, Allahabad and Varanasi. There are reports of road accidents in various districts due to heavy fog. As many as 100 trains are running behind schedule, while flights are either being cancelled or diverted due to dense fog.
