Cold claims four more lives in UP, toll climbs to 123

Four more persons died due to cold in different parts of Uttar Pradesh, taking the toll in the State this winter to 123.

One person each died in Allahabad, Kaushambi, Lalitpur and Siddharth Nagar due to cold conditions since yesterday, officials said here on Friday.

Though cold conditions persisted in most parts of the State, a bright sun came out in the morning giving some respite to the people from biting cold.

With 4.0 degree C, which was five notches below normal Sultanpur was the coldest in the State, while the State capital Lucknow recorded a minimum of 4.6 degrees Celsius this morning, which was four notches below normal.

Varanasi recorded a low of 7.6 degree C, which was normal, Kanpur had 6.4 degree C, which was two notches below normal, while minimum temperature in Allahabad settled at 9.8, one degrees above normal.

In Gorakhpur, the temperature was 5.8 degree C, three degree below normal.
