The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has given a clean chit to the former Maharashtra Chief Minister, Shivajirao Patil Nilangekar, in the Adarsh scam, maintaining that there was no prosecutable evidence against him.
The CBI said this in an affidavit filed in the Bombay High Court in response to an application to name Mr. Nilangekar as an accused in the scam. The petitioner, Praveen Wategaonkar, withdrew his application on Thursday after the CBI’s reply.
“The role of Shri Shivajirao Patil Nilangekar and others in relation to the Adarsh Co-op Housing Society has already been looked into by the CBl. The material unearthed during the course of investigation did not warrant any action against anyone except the persons / individuals against whom charge sheet has been filed in the light of the Prevention of Corruption Act and any other law and therefore they are not included as accused in the charge sheet,” the affidavit filed by the Additional Superintendent of Mumbai CBI stated.
Mr. Wategaonkar had alleged that Mr. Nilangekar, as the then Revenue Minister of Maharashtra, overruled the Finance Department in granting sanction to Adarsh and that his son-in-law got a flat in the society as quid pro quo.
The affidavit filed by the CBI said the charges against Mr. Nilangekar’s son-in-law were still under investigation. There was no material to suggest that Mr. Nilangekar extended undue favours to the society and that his son-in-law got a flat as quid pro quo.
