Six lakh metric tonne of paddy has been purchased from farmers in Chhattisgarh till now under the support price policy, official sources said today.

The paddy procurement for the current kharif season 2009-10 is being done through 1,333 primary cooperative samitis, they said.

The 6.46 lakh metric tonne of paddy consists of common and Grade A varieties. The maximum procurement, 1.93 lakh metric tonne, has been done in Raipur district, the sources said.

Farmers are being paid Rs 950 per quintal for common paddy and Rs 980 for Grade A variety. Besides, the Central and State Governments have announced a bonus of Rs 50 each.

An estimated 40 lakh metric tonne of paddy is expected to reach the cooperative samitis’ procurement centres this year, they said.

The four-month long paddy procurement is likely to go on till February 15, the sources said.
