Chennai-Manipur duo held in redwood haul

September 05, 2012 01:15 am | Updated 01:15 am IST - IMPHAL

The police on Monday arrested Arif Khan of Chennai and Anand Prasad of Manipur and seized from them 552 logs of redwood.

Jayanta Konsam, Superintendent of Police, Imphal West, said the logs, worth Rs. 3 crore, were found stacked in the outhouse of a former MLA at Samurou. The police think that some family members, and not the former MLA himself, might be behind a smuggling operation. The logs have been handed over to the Forest Department.
