Maharashtra government will seek help from IT body Nasscom, cyber cell and even foreign experts to recover data from computer hard disks damaged in the fire, which gutted top floors of Mantralaya.
The announcement was made by Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan after a meeting of the State Cabinet held at Vidhan Bhawan to review the mishap.
“We will try to restore hard disks and recover data from them. We will seek help of Nasscom, cyber cell and even foreign experts,” Mr. Chavan said.
All files pertaining to the Adarsh scam have been handed over to CBI, so there was no question of it affecting the probe, he said. Over 2.27 lakh files have been scanned, he said.
There may have been lacunae in fire safety systems, we will look into it, he said. Mantralaya will be out of bounds till the structural safety audit is complete, Mr. Chavan said.
The ministers have been asked to cancel their tours and supervise work of restoring documents in their office, he said.

The post-fire incident observations of Maharashtra CM speak volumes of the unpreparedness of his Government. Why fire was not considered as a threat to the data in the computer network? Why there was no or inadequate arrangements to store data in a Disaster Recovery Data Center, in parallel? Can it also be seen an engineered fire, considering that many sensitive records, relating to on-going criminal investigations, were in the Mantralaya building? Or, probably, this fire has brought cheers to such people who were in a quandary how to extricate themselves from criminal investigations? If there is even an indirect accountability on any one in the Government to ensure the safety of Mantralaya, it is time that person is forced to resign and criminal action initiated against him for negligence of duty. And why not also slap the charge of 'culpable homicide' on him, whosoever it be?
Does India not have experts in IT and data analyst , why Chavan shaheb seeking help from foreign expert
Let us have some faith in our leaders. Stop distrusting everything they do or say.
Well.. did the CBI say that they were going to search for some files at
Mantralaya? Anyway, the fire will help rulers answer RTI inquiries
easily...

The burning of papers, evidence and records have to be warded off by
keeping scanned copies in safe archives electronically. Files in red
tape should be replaced by electronic mail/records. The loss of public
property, will be avoided. Burning paper, probably and apparently the
prime aim, in many cases of arson in offices, will be forestalled by the
archived electronic evidences. Like UIDAI, another Nilekani Mission to
base all government business, on the electronic data base is the need of
the hour.
Mission accomplished. All the records of wrong doing turned in ash.
Now all the political leaders are honest by this fire. Great job done
